Research & Development

We attended many of the seminars put on by the QLD DPI&F during the latter part of 2005.
One of the topics discussed was that there was no way to log the temperament of an animal.
The concept of measuring the time it takes for the animal to travel 1.7m when leaving the crush was presented.
Our General Manager on one of his overseas trips encountered a situation where the calm temperament of the animal was a pre requisite for the slaughter of the animal.
"The animal was led up to the Monk who placed his hand on the animal, if the animal was calm or calmed down it was led of to be slaughtered otherwise it was sent back to the paddock".
Another topic of interest was on DNA and how it can be used to improve the herd quality.

We have recently completed the NLIS service provider training course with the QDPI&F.
NLIS service providers are certified after doing the DPI&F training course and operate as a fee for service contractors who are able to read the NLIS devices and access the Meat and Livestock database with your written authority, some will also be able to record livestock management as an added service.
When transferring EU registered livestock special attention should be paid to the NVD number.
